Vaccination Schedule

Vaccination Schedule does calendar arithmetic: counting days, adding intervals, and finding where dates fall in the week or year.

What this does

Vaccination Schedule does calendar arithmetic: counting days, adding intervals, and finding where dates fall in the week or year.

Vaccination Schedule does calendar arithmetic: how old someone is, how many days sit between two dates, and how many of those days are business days. Dates look simple because we use them daily, but calendars are full of traps: leap years, months of uneven length, weekends, holidays, and time zones that can move a moment across the midnight line.

The formula, explained plainly

calendar day counting with leap years handled, start and end rules as labeled

Age is elapsed time, not just a year subtraction. Someone born in June 2000 turns 24 in June 2024, but a year-subtraction in March 2024 would wrongly say 24 three months early. Proper age math compares month and day as well as year, then expresses the result in years, months, and days.

Date differences come in two flavors: exclusive and inclusive counting. Exclusive counts the gap (Monday to Wednesday is 2 days); inclusive counts both endpoints (Monday to Wednesday is 3 days). Neither is wrong, but mixing them is the classic off-by-one error, so Vaccination Schedule states which convention each tool uses.

Business days are calendar days minus weekends minus holidays. The weekend part is mechanical, but holidays depend on country, region, and sometimes the employer, which is why business-day tools let you add custom holidays. A '10 business day' deadline starting Friday is two full weeks later, a fact that surprises people every time.

Time zones add a final wrinkle: a calendar day is a local concept. An event at 11 PM in New York is already tomorrow in London. For day counts between dates this rarely matters, but for deadlines measured in hours across zones, convert to one zone first and then do the math.

How to use it

  1. Pick target date.
  2. Read the instant result and the breakdown below it.
  3. Adjust any input to compare scenarios.

Worked example

With the default values, the result is 264 days ago Target is Thu Jan 15 2026.. Default dates are chosen so the answer is easy to verify on any calendar.

Common mistakes

  • Counting business days without the relevant holidays, or using another country's holiday list.
  • Comparing timestamps from different time zones without converting to a common zone first.
  • Assuming 'next Friday' or week numbering means the same thing everywhere: ISO weeks start Monday, US convention often starts Sunday.
  • Using 365 days per year in multi-year spans and silently dropping all the leap days.
  • Entering dates in the wrong format (MM/DD vs DD/MM) and getting a valid-looking but wrong date instead of an error.
  • Forgetting leap years: February 29 exists in years divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400 (2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not).
  • Counting both endpoints when the tool counts the gap, or vice versa, producing the classic off-by-one day error.
  • Assuming every month is 30 days, which drifts age and interest calculations by days per month.

Limitations

  • Calculations use the proleptic Gregorian calendar; historical dates before 1582 follow different calendars in reality.
  • Holiday lists are regional and change by proclamation; business-day counts are only as good as the holiday set you supply.
  • Day counts ignore time zones and daylight saving unless the tool explicitly models them; deadlines in hours across zones need conversion first.
  • Weeks, quarters, and fiscal years follow the stated convention (ISO 8601 by default); local conventions may differ.
  • Far-future dates assume the current leap-year rules continue unchanged, which is true in practice but technically a projection.

Expected accuracy

Day counts are exact on the proleptic Gregorian calendar, including the full leap-year rule. Age is computed from the complete date (year, month, day), not year subtraction. Business-day counts are exact given your weekend definition and holiday list.

Sources and standards

  • The Gregorian calendar leap-year rule (divisible by 4, except centuries not divisible by 400) and ISO 8601 week-date conventions; business-day logic follows standard working-calendar practice.

Bottom line

Vaccination Schedule counts calendar time exactly, leap days included, as long as you feed it complete dates in the right format. Watch the inclusive-vs-exclusive convention, supply your own holidays for business days, and convert time zones before comparing moments. For deadlines measured in hours across zones, do the zone conversion first and let the calendar math follow.

Key insight

Off-by-one errors rule date math: decide up front whether the start and end dates count, and remember the leap-year rule (divisible by 4, except centuries, except multiples of 400).

Frequently asked questions

How is age actually calculated?

By comparing the full birth date against today: subtract the years, then subtract one more year if this year's birthday has not happened yet. The remainder is expressed in months and days. Vaccination Schedule never uses plain year subtraction, which is the source of most wrong ages.

What is the leap year rule?

A year is a leap year if divisible by 4, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400. So 2024 is a leap year, 1900 was not, and 2000 was. February 29 babies legally age on Feb 28 or Mar 1 in non-leap years depending on jurisdiction.

What counts as a business day?

Usually Monday through Friday excluding public holidays. The weekend part is fixed by convention, but holidays vary by country and region, so Vaccination Schedule lets you add custom holidays. Always confirm whose holiday list applies to your deadline.

Why is my date difference off by one day?

Almost certainly inclusive vs exclusive counting. Exclusive counts the gap between dates (Mon to Wed = 2); inclusive counts both endpoints (Mon to Wed = 3). Check which convention the tool uses and which one your contract or plan assumes.

Do time zones affect date differences?

For whole-day counts between plain dates, no. For deadlines measured in hours, absolutely: 5 PM Friday in New York is Saturday in Sydney. Convert both moments to one time zone (or UTC) before doing hour-level math.

How many weeks are between two dates?

Divide the day count by 7. Note that 'weeks' as a duration differs from calendar weeks: 10 days is 1.43 weeks of duration but can touch 3 different calendar weeks. Vaccination Schedule reports duration unless it says otherwise.

What is ISO 8601 week numbering?

The international standard where weeks start Monday and week 1 contains the first Thursday of the year. It avoids the ambiguity of US-style Sunday-start weeks and is the default for week-number tools here.

How do I calculate someone's age in months?

Count the full months elapsed since the birth month, adjusting for the day of month. Vaccination Schedule reports years, months, and days together so you can read off whichever unit you need without doing the awkward month-length math yourself.

Why do date calculators disagree with each other?

Usually one of three reasons: inclusive vs exclusive endpoints, different holiday lists for business days, or one tool ignoring leap days. Align those three settings and the tools will agree.

What happens with February 29 birthdays in non-leap years?

The calendar has no Feb 29 that year, so systems map the birthday to Feb 28 or Mar 1 by local rule. Age calculators handle it by comparing against Mar 1 in common years; legal age thresholds follow jurisdiction, not arithmetic.

How does daylight saving affect day counts?

Whole-day counts are unaffected. But a 'day' measured in hours across a DST changeover is 23 or 25 hours long locally. Scheduling tools that count hours across the changeover must use zone-aware timestamps, not calendar dates.

Can I count only weekdays between two dates?

Yes, that is exactly what business-day mode does before holidays are subtracted. A two-week span starting Monday contains 10 weekdays; starting Saturday it still contains 10 weekdays but spans 16 calendar days, which is why the start day matters.

What is the difference between a calendar day and a business day?

A calendar day is every day on the calendar. A business day excludes weekends and holidays. '10 days' and '10 business days' from a Friday differ by a full week, so contracts that mean business days should say so explicitly.
